System Navigator (Men & Male-Identifying Focus)

Job Type: 1 Fulltime position, In Person/Community-Based

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, some weekends and evenings are required

Wage:  $25.00 per hour

12-Month Contract: June 2026 - May 2027

The System Navigator provides individualized, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed support to men and male-identifying individuals as they navigate complex and intersecting service systems. These may include mental health, addictions, housing and homelessness supports, income assistance, employment services, disability services, child welfare, and the justice system.

This role emphasizes equity, accountability, and strong professional boundaries while addressing the unique experiences and barriers faced by men and male-identifying clients. The Navigator balances direct client support with system-level awareness, contributing insights that strengthen internal practices and improve cross-sector collaboration to better serve this population.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one navigation support to individuals with complex needs
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments and coordinate access to services
  • Assist with applications, documentation, and appointments (including accompaniment when needed)
  • Support client self-advocacy and understanding of systems
  • Build trust with individuals who may be disconnected from or distrustful of systems
  • Use culturally responsive, gender-aware, and trauma-informed approaches
  • Support group programming and collaborate with community partners
  • Advocate for clients while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Identify systemic barriers and participate in case conferences and cross-sector collaboration
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and contribute to reporting
  • Engage in supervision, professional development, and uphold organizational standards and ethics

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Lived experience as a man or male-identifying individual
  • Familiarity with Federal, Provincial and primarily Waterloo Region specific systems and resources
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of social, health, justice, or disability systems
  • Strong equity-based and trauma-informed practice skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, privacy, compliance and professional ethics
  • Crisis intervention/de-escalation skills and experience
  • Case Management /database experience
  • Experience working with newcomers, refugees, racialized communities or marginalized populations
  • Language requirements/strong assets (Arabic, Urdu, Pashto, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Police/Vulnerable sector check required
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada
