Eritrean Islamic Community of Waterloo Region: The Resilience Project
The Eritrean Islamic Community of Waterloo Region is a non‑profit organization dedicated to supporting Eritrean newcomers and families as they settle and thrive in Canada. Established in 2012, the community works to preserve Eritrean cultural and linguistic heritage, while fostering meaningful connections with the broader Canadian society. Their programs empower children, youth, women, and families through tutoring, cultural education, recreational activities, and community engagement initiatives. EICWR provides opportunities for members to share their experiences, celebrate traditions, bridge cultural gaps, and build a strong sense of belonging in the Kitchener‑Waterloo region.
Al-Salaam Islamic Centre: Al-salaam Inslamic centre
Al‑Salaam Islamic Centre is a vibrant, faith‑based community organization dedicated to supporting Muslim children, youth, and families across Waterloo Region. The Centre provides daily prayers, Qur’an classes, youth mentorship, psychoeducation, family counselling, and violence‑prevention programming, all rooted in Islamic principles and delivered in a culturally responsive, trauma‑informed manner.

KidSport KW supports local families by providing grants that help cover registration fees for dance, sport, and recreational programs, removing financial barriers that prevent children from participating.

Filipino‑Canadian Association of Kitchener‑Waterloo (FIL‑CAN)
The Filipino‑Canadian Association of the KW Region (FIL‑CAN) is a community‑based, volunteer‑driven organization dedicated to empowering Filipino‑Canadians, newcomers, and multigenerational families across Waterloo Region. Rooted in the values of inclusion, mutual aid, cultural pride, and community resilience, FIL‑CAN works to reduce barriers for newcomers, strengthen family wellbeing, and foster a strong sense of belonging.
FIL‑CAN offers a wide range of culturally responsive programs, including newcomer and settlement support, immigration information sessions, youth and family recreational activities, basketball and sports programs, back‑to‑school drives, charity fundraising events, seniors’ wellness programming, women’s empowerment groups, and community clean‑up initiatives. Through these services, FIL‑CAN promotes mental health, social inclusion, leadership development, and community engagement while honoring and celebrating Filipino heritage.
Neighbourhood Nursing Team: Public Health Neighbourhood Nursing - Region of Waterloo
The Neighbourhood Nursing Team in the Region of Waterloo (ROW) provides essential health support services to residents in their communities. They specialize in helping individuals who often face barriers to accessing healthcare.
Beginning February 2026, NNT is holding monthly drop‑in sessions at The Family Centre, running from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Sessions are staffed by rotating public health nurses—including Riki Hillier, Maritza Yawching-Robertson, and members of the broader NNT team—to provide consistent, friendly support. These visits strengthen connections with families, increase awareness of Public Health services, and help build trust within diverse communities.
Waterloo Region Community Legal Services: Waterloo Region Community Legal Services
Waterloo Region Community Legal Services is a community‑based legal clinic dedicated to providing accessible, no‑cost legal support to low‑income individuals and families across Kitchener‑Waterloo. Their services focus on areas such as housing, social assistance, employment, human rights, and family law information. WRCLS offers culturally responsive, client‑centered advocacy to help community members understand their rights, navigate legal processes, and access justice.Beginning January 2026, WRCLS is partnering with The Family Centre to deliver free legal clinic sessions on‑site, offering 30‑minute appointments and drop‑in support for families, frontline workers, and community partners. This collaboration strengthens access to timely legal guidance within a trusted community space and reflects WRCLS’s ongoing commitment to justice, equity, and barrier‑free service.
EarlyON Early Years Navigators: Early Years and Child Care Navigators - EarlyON Child and Family Centre
The Early Years & Child Care Navigators—hosted through the YMCA of Three Rivers—support families across Waterloo Region in accessing early learning and child care services. The Navigator team helps expectant parents and caregivers of children ages 0–6 understand and navigate the child care system, including creating and managing OneList applications, exploring licensed child care options, learning about child care subsidy, and connecting to EarlyON Centres, Public Health, and special‑needs resourcing.
Beginning January 2026, the Navigator (Ifrah Aziz) is offering monthly office hours at The Family Centre, providing on‑site, no‑cost guidance for families, workers, and community partners. Appointments can be booked by phone, text, or online, with language supports available in Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi. This collaboration strengthens access to early years navigation and ensures families receive tailored, side‑by‑side support in a trusted community environment.
The Community Hub consists of two programs:
Incubator Program: Offers mentorship, training workshops, legal assistance, and fundraising guidance to help new grassroots organizations develop capacity and sustainability. Partners are expected to transition into the Accelerator phase within three years.
Accelerator Program: Provides capacity-building workshops, technical assistance, and peer learning opportunities to empower community partners who graduated from the incubator program to enhance organizational effectiveness, financial sustainability, and community impact. This initiative promotes organizational capacity building and sustainability as well as community engagement, shared resources for overall family and community well-being.
