Capacity Canada and Family & Children’s Services of Waterloo Region Announce New Capacity-Building Partnership to Support Community Organizations

Waterloo Region, Ontario, May 6, 2026

Capacity Canada and Family & Children’s Services of the Waterloo Region (FACS) are pleased to announce a new partnership focused on strengthening the leadership and long‑term sustainability of grassroots community organizations participating in the FACS Family Centre Community Hub.

Through this partnership, Capacity Canada will provide tailored leadership coaching and organizational development support to Hub organizations, with a focus on fundraising, governance, strategic planning, financial management, human resources, communications, and overall organizational effectiveness. Supports will be customized to each organization’s stage of development and delivered through a combination of one‑to‑one coaching and group learning opportunities.

The partnership will support organizations currently participating in the Hub program, including the Canadian Aweil Youth Association, Black Afri-Can Youth Organization, Canadian Arab Women’s Association, Eritrean Islamic Community of the Waterloo Region, Ethiopian Association of Kitchener‑Waterloo & Surrounding Areas, Hummingbird Centre for Hope, and Levant Canada. These organizations play a vital role in serving children, youth, families, and newcomer communities across Waterloo Region.

“The Family Centre Community Hub is a strategic investment in community-led solutions that strengthen long-term outcomes for children, youth, and families,” said Oluwakemi Aderibigbe, Director of Community Engagement and Prevention at FACS. “The Hub provides a supportive environment where grassroots organizations can build strong systems, strengthening governance, leadership, sustainability, and the confidence needed to thrive. Partnering with Capacity Canada allows us to deepen this support by bringing experienced nonprofit leaders alongside Hub organizations at a critical stage of their growth.”

Capacity Canada brings decades of nonprofit leadership and governance experience to the partnership through its team of Executives‑in‑Residence—seasoned practitioners who provide practical, values‑aligned guidance to organizations navigating growth, complexity, and change.

“We are excited to work with FACS and the Hub partners to support leadership that is grounded, resilient, and community‑responsive,” said Cathy Brothers, CEO at Capacity Canada. “It is a privilege to walk alongside the FACS Hub organizations as they strengthen their abilities to do so much more good in our community.”

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to equity, prevention, and community‑led solutions by investing in the organizational capacity of groups closest to the communities they serve.
