Thank You To Our Donors

Generous donations from people and businesses, have made such a positive difference in the lives of children, youth and families in our community

Here are some highlights from 2016 that celebrate the generosity of donors and the results of the programs and services provided by Family and Children’s Services in Waterloo Region:

  • $371,125 was raised in the Annual CHYM Tree of Hope
  • 769 local families and youth received support from the Holiday Support Program
  • 421 children received backpacks for school
  • 500 children attended summer camp
  • 199 children received opportunities through our Smile Maker fund to 'just be a kid' and play on a sports team or receive other supports like graduation clothing and birthday gifts 
  • 54 Crown Wards received college or university scholarships, allowing them to pursue their academic goals and dreams 
  • 6 Awards were distributed to children in foster care to support their passions in the area of culture, sports or the arts

Trusting Loving Connections builds on parents' skills and strengths to increase their attachment with their child.  (Supported by the Kavelman-Fonn Foundation)
The SMILES Therapeutic Group provides support and education for children who have a parent with a mental illness.  (Supported by United Way of Kitchener, Waterloo and Area)
Me to We - Going Local allows youth to experience the positive effects of giving back to our community.  (Supported by the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation)
The Youth Entrepreneurship Program provides youth with the skills, supports and confidence needed to pursue their entrepreneurial ideas.  (Supported by Susan Hallman) 
The Community Hub at the Family Centre provides overhead support, networking opportunities and leadership development for small not-for-profits.  (Supported by Jim and Sue Hallman, The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation and Capacity Canada)
The Bookworm Club provides children in foster care with books and games so that they can learn, have fun and build relationships with their caregivers.  (Supported by The Cowan Foundation)
The Moving Forward Sexual Abuse Treatment Program provides specialized assessment and treatment services for children and teens who have experienced sexual abuse.  (Supported by the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation)
