Hummingbird Centre for Hope

Hummingbird Centre for Hope provides ongoing peer support to widowed parents. Our main focus is to build a community of hope and support to our widowed parents and their children. We do this through our peer support model that focuses on the practical, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects of grief. Our programs provide:

  • Education
  • Resources and Community for our widowed parents

The founders are widowed parents. During their journey, they realized there were limited ongoing supports for widowed parents with children. Grief does not end nor does the impact to the family. The need for ongoing support is critical to helping our families rebuild.

Important accomplishments of our organization:

  • We are part of the Resilience Project through Family and Children's Services of the Waterloo Region.
  • We have collaborated with Bereaved Families of Ontario Midwest to start a teen grief group in our community.
  • We have expanded our face to face programs outside of our community and grown our virtual supports.

Let me share the impact we've had with this quote from a 5 year member of Hummingbird: "We make each other feel sane". The community we have built supports each other. They rally, they encourage, they listen, they understand. Each widowed parent offers hope to a new widowed parent. That impact cannot be measured.
