Family and Children Services of the Waterloo Region currently has available a full-time Legal Counsel position. The position is located in Kitchener.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice to Agency staff who serve children and families under the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act. Counsel will work primarily with the Indigenous Services Team within the Agency to assist in drafting pleadings and briefs for cases before the courts; conduct litigation at all levels of courts and tribunals; provide continuing staff legal education and participate in the management team of the Agency. Counsel should also be versed in non-litigious options including IADR, ODR and other forms of dispute resolution.
-LL. B/J.D. from a recognized University
-Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
-The ideal candidate will have:
- 3-5 years’ experience in child protection
- An understanding of cultural attachment and permanency through an Indigenous lens
- An understanding of the issues impacting Indigenous families within the urban environment
- Lived experience of the issues facing Indigenous people of Canada
- Demonstrable ability and willingness to work independently and within a team setting
- Strong assessment, drafting, communication and time management skills
$88,359.46 -$111,268.81 per annum
Management and Excluded Grade 15
