Some of the best reasons and benefits
of volunteering are the ones you that may not immediately come to
mind — they are the ones though that make it worth your while
to go that extra step. People who have spent time volunteering for
a cause report that they get back in satisfaction and joy more than
they ever expend in inconvenience or effort. You'll receive these
benefits as a volunteer at this agency:
- Volunteering makes you feel
needed and purposeful.
- Volunteers gain training and experience
in a social service setting.
- Volunteers have access to a specialized
library
- Volunteering helps to improve your
community.
- Volunteering can lead to learning
new skills or improving existing ones.
- Volunteering helps you meet
new people.
- Volunteering can create new
contacts which may help your career.
- Volunteers are reimbursed for
thier mileage and recieve references upon request

The following is a statement of philosophy under which volunteers
are encouraged to participate in their services provided by the
Agency:
- The Agency believes that volunteers
are a valuable asset and a vital link in the delivery of services.
- The Agency recognizes the need to
offer volunteers support, training and supervision in the most
effective manner based on staff skills and resources available.
- The Agency should provide volunteers
with opportunities that offer challenges and satisfaction.
- The Agency is prepared to permit
volunteers some flexibility and some individual initiative in
providing services, yet retain sufficient authority through an
effective accountability system.

Volunteers receive direction and
support from a variety of areas. Volunteers who work directly with
clients are provided supervision and direction by the client's worker,
volunteer drivers receive supervision from the Transportation Coordinators,
Office and project volunteers are supervised by project leaders
(Administrative Managers, or Fundraising and Communications Supervisors/Coordinators.),
Residential Volunteers receive direction from shift supervisors.
The Supervisor of Volunteer Services provides supervision and direction
and advocacy for volunteers who need it. Volunteer Drivers have
quarterly meetings.
