Each foster family is assigned a resource worker. This is your social worker who assists you through
placements and guides you along your career as a foster family.
Emergencies do not necessarily occur
between nine and five. Therefore when emergencies happen outside
these hours, you can contact our After Hours Service.
Foster families are invited to monthly
"Cluster Group" meetings which provide a venue for networking
and education. Here, you have the opportunity to meet other foster
families, have guest speakers, receive updates on what's happening
in foster care and receive support.
As a foster parent, you have the opportunity
to become trained in several areas relating to the care of foster
children. You will be invited to attend training sessions, workshops
and conventions and will receive credit for your participation.
All foster parents receive a per diem
rate for each child in their care. The remuneration is not meant
to "pay" you, as fostering is NOT A JOB. It is a nominal
amount to help pay for the additional expenses of a foster child.
Funds are also available for other living expenses such as clothing,
dental care, medical care, school supplies, etc.
People foster for a variety of reasons
but first and foremost they do so because they care very deeply
for children. Our foster parents really feel that they make a difference
in the life of a child.
