Welcome
to the Family and Children's Services of Waterloo Region website!
I hope you will find this an informative way of learning about our
agency. Family and Children's Services is the Children's Aid Society
for the Region of Waterloo, population 425,000, located approximately
100 kilometres west of Toronto. We have chosen to call ourselves
Family and Children's Services because we believe that protecting
children means working to support and strengthen families so that
children can grow up safely at home, wherever possible.
While we wish all children could
grow up safely in their families, that is not always possible and
some children have to be cared for by the agency instead. When children
have to be protected outside of their own homes, we still keep the
emphasis on "family" by finding foster families or adoptive
families for children.
Protecting children happens most
effectively when the whole community is actively involved in keeping
children safe. We can all help protect children by doing things
like:
- ensuring our own children are
safe, healthy, and loved always
- watching out for all children
we may come into contact with day by day, and calling Family and
Children's Services if you suspect a child is coming to harm
- giving a helping hand to children
who are in need by sharing your family with a foster child, or
by volunteering
Family and Children's Services
of the Waterloo Region is one of the 54 Children's Aid Societies
who, together, help to protect all children in Ontario. All Children's
Aid Societies operate under the Child and Family Services Act of
Ontario.
Family and Children's Services
is proud to have been protecting the children of this community
since 1894.
Sincerely,
Peter Ringrose
