The mandate of Family and Children's Services is to protect the best
interests of children. At times this may mean removing a child either
temporarily or permanently from their family of origin. In partnership
with many caring and dedicated foster and adoptive families, Family
and Children's Services provides safe and nurturing homes for children
on a daily basis. Some families provide weekend "relief",
some take in children for several months or up to 2 years, and still
others become permanent foster or adoptive families for a child.

There is a high need for more
foster and adoptive families for children of all ages. In order
to meet the unique needs of each child, we seek a diversity of individuals
and couples to provide care. All prospective foster and adoptive
applicants will be considered equally as to their potential suitability
regardless of race, creed, colour, national origin, ancestry, citizenship,
age, sex, sexual orientation, place of origin, marital status, family
status or handicap. For more about Fostering
and Adoption as opportunities to care
for our community's children click on the links above or on the
left menu.
Adoption is a legal and social
process which establishes a parent-child relationship, providing
permanence and security, for children whose birth family, for a
variety of possible reasons, cannot parent them.
